Prompted by the pulse of the Holy Spirit and being sensitive to the concrete needs of the time young Italian gentleman Paul Danei Responded with enthusiasm to God’s call and formed the Passionist Congregation in 1720, in the picturesque Italian city of Como. Their mission was to dedicate themselves to the love of the crucified Lord and proclaim his love to everyone according to the needs of the time. While branching out, they chose to set up an educational institution in the ancient city of Vellore Tamil Nadu. The regional superior from USA, Fr. Joe Moons and the local council wanted to impart education for the moral and spiritual upliftment of the young children. Under the direction of the gracious Fr. Joe Moons two courageous, high spirited priests Fr. Sebastian KX and Fr. Xavier USA bought three acres of land from the local people and built a house and a small school for kids. Gradually Fr. Joseph took over the charge of the school. Later the mission oriented young man Fr. Nelson bought three acres of land and built a wonderful amidst the sugarcane and paddy fields with the help of the foreigners and local people.
On 24th June 1996, St. Gemma Motessori House of children opened the gates to the children of the locality. The bungalow within the compound functioned as the nursery school and Rectory, Fr. Xavier was the first Headmaster of the Montessori School. Shanthamma was the first helper and Jayaraj, Vinod and Gunasundari were the first students. The total strength of the Montessori School was sixteen. As there were no English Medium School in the vicinity, there was a dire need for it in Randham Korattur. The founders wanted to run it along Public School lines with the friendliness of a local school.
Welcomed, for the aspirations of the people could be realized. Thus, the St. Gemma Matriculation school was established under the able guidance of Fr. Xavier and Fr. Sebastian on June 24th 1996. Brick by brick, the school was laying a strong foundation for its future growth. Year after year new classes were added. The Italian Congregation provided funds for a new building. Five classrooms were constructed. The new block was modelled according to Centre School Stipulation.
The simple dream of our predecessors has now grown into a temple of wisdom for the students in and around Randham Korattur
